1st Generation iPod Nano vs 2nd Generation iPod Nano
When the first iPod Nano was released, it was exactly what i was looking for; a quality MP3 player, small size, and decent storage capacity. But after using it for a day or two I had already noticed scratches on the front and on the back. So I looked into some cases that would be nice to keep my new iPod in. Not wanting anything large and bulky, I actually decided I didn’t want to hide how good the iPod looked. So this is when I decided I would grab up one of those plastic shields.
I believe i picked it up from ShieldZone for about $20. It is fairly easy to apply once you get the hang of it. You need to let it sit for about 24 hours so that the adhesive cures and has a solid bond with the iPod. Once that happens, you have an excellent protector for your iPod. I put this thing in my pockets that had keys, spare change, and cell phones and the iPod came out with no scratches at all. The only thing I can complain about is that the corners started to come undone, but simply wet them and press them back down and all is okay again.
Now on to the 2nd Generation iPod Nano.
I purchased the 8GB Black Nano the day it was released. I did not want to take it out of its package until I explored possible cases for it. But I kept in mind that Apple had said it made its outer case more durable and resistant to scratches so I took it out for a test run. All I have to say is wow. The new design does resist scratching very well. I’ve probably used it every day since I’ve had it and to this day there is very little scratching, if none at all. The weakest spot of the iPod would have to be the clickwheel. Most would thing the screen would be the weakest and most prone to scratching, but that’s completely wrong. There is no scratch on my screen at all.
So overall Apple has fulfilled its promise of providing a more durable iPod Nano. Unfortunately the 8GB only comes in black, but i suppose that is better than just Pink. I am quite happy with this iPod and hopefully this level of quality will continue on future devices.
